Kelly Lawler is a Philadelphia based artist and maker. An MFA 2023 graduate from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts Kelly is continuing her practice with a focus on public art and social engagement.
Her sculpture and painting practice is on top of a 25 year project management career in technology across the Olympics, Corporate and Non-profit worlds. Kelly holds a MS in Sports Administration from Georgia State University (Atlanta, GA) and a BFA in Graphic Design from Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond, VA).
A Landmark scholarship awardee Kelly received the schools largest Venture Fund Award to support the sculpting, mold making, casting and finishing of a life sized octopus which involved the casting of 170 lbs of aluminum into 13 pieces. “Pavel” the octopus has been welcomed into the Cherry Street Pier family, as Philadelphia public art that invites all to experience the joy of his friendship.
Kelly has exhibited in group shows at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and is a member of the Philadelphia Sculpture Society with an eye on starting a Philadelphia collective that would be focused on artists studios, shared resources and community healing.
Growing up in the Philadelphia suburbs, Kelly resided in Atlanta (1991-99), Salt Lake (1999-2015) and Seattle 2015-2018) before moving to Northern Liberties in 2018 with her husband John. She is the mother of adult twin girls Kerrie (Salt Lake City) and Emily (Chicago) and a life long athlete playing basketball and field hockey as well as guiding with the Achillies International, Philadelphia Chapter.

Artist Statement
I am a seeker, a healer and a maker, contemplating the energy that connects us. With a love of both process and color, my practice is one of repetition and long expanses of color, which is a gift to myself of a meditative experience and a deep flow state.
We are all made of energy. Known through many cultures as chi, prana, and source, to name just a few, but all with a common understanding that these vibrations come from the same origin.
With an interest in socially engaged art, I seek collaboration and conversation from my work that drives the sharing of positive energy and nurtures healing. Looking to educate and influence so that our society can move away from “I” and “me” and evolve into “we” and “us.”
